Behind the doors of Needwood Ice Cream

At the end of April 2013 Needwood Ice Cream was purchased by four young entrepreneurs - Jonathan and Eniko, Martyn and Anna. The girls lives became ice cream. Eniko manages production and is the brains behind the delicious flavours and textures. She gets her inspiration from a love of food and cooking. She was born and grew up in Hungary and she has undoubtedly learned her skills from her mother Monika, a professional baker/patissier in Budapest. On the other hand, Anna grew up on the family farm where Needwood Ice Cream is produced, and focuses on sales using her retail background to ensure the customers get the best of service.

The Thompstone's have farmed at Anslow Park for over 100 years, where there are now 6 flocks of free range hens. It is the eggs from these hens that make the beautifully smooth ice cream, whilst the milk and cream are from a farm in Duffield, only a stone's throw away.

One question the girls are always asked, "What's your most popular flavour?" The answer is boring - vanilla. However, this Christmas along with the long standing favourites Christmas Pudding and Brandy Butter, Eniko has brought more interesting flavours and textures to the table. Gingerbread ice cream containing ginger wine, stem ginger and biscuit pieces, and Chocolate and Hazelnut Praline ice cream, with real praline paste and hazelnuts. These two 'newbies' split the team in half. Jonathan and Martyn love Gingerbread ice cream with warm apple pie, but the girls enjoy Chocolate and Hazelnut with anything!

A competition is currently running which involves posting a selfie on Needwood's Facebook page or Twitter feed to win some delicious Christmas ice cream. The most amusing photo of someone eating Needwood's ice cream will win.

This year The Great British Bake Off highlighted Baked Alaska. Results ranged from fantastic to disastrous. The girls are itching to try a Christmas Pudding Baked Alaska using Needwood's delicious Christmas Pudding Ice Cream.
